Thailand - My friends in Koh Lanta - Mar 2017

For a English version please scroll down

English version

Ko Lanta is consensually considered to be the quietest and least touristic island of Southern Thailand and my willingness is to stay here. So I have enjoyed the most precious good that exists. The time!
The hostel where I am has a privileged view to Kantiang Bay. The bar is the real spot!
At the moment, it does not have a fixed regularity to be open (it is the beginning of the low season), but I ended up to verify that the probability of this happening seems to be directly related to the presence of "Papa" Jack - as I mentioned in the previous chronicle, a man respected by all.
One of these nights I met him.
Jack, is a very interesting personage with whom I have had the privilege of spending some time. American, ex combatant of the Vietnam war, is passionate about Thailand, where he has been for many years. About a year ago, he decided to settle down on Koh Lanta and as the the days pass, I better understand him.
He is a well-disposed man, with a very characteristic laugh and, simultaneously, a wisdom person with much experience of life. As he combines with these characteristics the fact of being very generous and authentic, you can’t not like him.

"Papa" Jack speaks a little Thai, so he was an extraordinary mediator to meet some of the most cherished people with who I've been with so far.
And what do Nor, Zaw Oo, Anne, Pong, Aple, Myo Zaw, Min, and Aung
have in common? Regardless of the facility of speaking English, they have a huge heart 😍
Nor and Zaw Oo are Burmese and are the ones who support the bar. They are also those with whom I have established relationship first. The rest are Thai, but I think none were born on the island.
Anne and Pong create a space for massages (the best ones!!), with the support of Aple. Nowadays, I think I can say that I was adopted by them 😃
I see Min and Aú more in the mornings, always smiling and very friendly.
I also want to introduce Elara, Jack's mate, nevertheless I do not see her so often. I think they are very good for each other because Elara, although more discreet, is a woman with a great sensitivity and a giver, always available to help others. It was also with her that I confirmed some of the information regarding projects taking place on the island (which are not many, in fact).

By the same time, Alex arrived in the dormitory, a Frenchman super good people, well-disposed, partying to the last house and very easygoing.
It was with him that I explored the southeastern part of the island.

This are is mainly characterized by mangroves. The water is not transparent and it is not recommended to enter, so the area is not so touristy as others. Nevertheless, in my opinion, very, very beautiful!
We did a lovely motorcycle ride! After showing one of my favorite restaurants to my new friend, we went to Old Town. This area immediately attracts our attention because of the restaurants, the tasteful shops and some very picturesque hostels. It also concentrates more local people who, in addition to tourism, are engaged in agriculture, fishing or raising animals. It also attracts foreigners staying for longer seasons on Koh Lanta.
Continuing south, and as far as it is possible to go, the road is very beautiful. It offers a charming and very green panorama.
It was also with Alex that I went to visit Bamboo beach, the last beach, further south of the island. It is a beautiful beach, long, with a dense tropical forest. It is immediately before entering the Natural Park by the West, territory on the domain of the monkeys.
The time with Alex, has been very fun and educational for both. He has improved his English skills and I have tried to timidly recover my French. So we have a lot of “our” conversations, which are in a very mixed language (Anglo-French), sometimes with the presence of Google translate😉

By now you must have realized that this trip is like a movie of personages. Is not so much the argument that matters, but more the people that I meet. And although they are poorly described, I have to mention them since they have accompanied me in a very special meeting with myself.
