Portugal - Trekking around Sintra - Apr 2017

English version

I have been dreaming of making the Path of Santiago for more than 2 years and lately this idea has been more and more present. It gained almost an urgency.
In conversation with a dear friend who loves a good trekking, Maria João (Princess for friends), I decided to go to training, letting myself be guided by her. And so it was!

Today we left Lisbon and went to the Lagoa Azul, in Sintra. We parked and we immediately saw the lagoon which is in fact very pretty.
We went around it and followed on foot, along the bridle path - a beautiful path full of trees, shrubs, fetus and flowers, all dotted with large, round, white rocks.
We knew we were doing well because this trail is punctuated with small wooden log bridges, linked together.

Once we reached this trail, we arrived at the Lagoa dos Mosqueiros. Another beautiful lagoon, gramed by bushes of yellow flowers and large trees, like the pines. I loved the tranquility that space transmits and the croaking of frogs and crickets.

Since we were so close, we went to the Capuchos Convent. We decided not to enter because it did not make sense to us to pay the entrance fee. 7 €/ person. A family of 2 adults and 2 children pay € 22 ... I think it's time to do what is done in other countries.
I propose that residents in Portugal can get discount or free entry. I do not know if it's just me but I have the feeling that Portugal is a country more and more for tourists and less for the residents and I'm sorry for that.

Finally, advised by a wise cyclist (in fact, there are many in these parts) we made a charming trail to follow the Pedra Amarela creek until we reach the river Mula dam. Then we returned to the Lagoa Azul, by National Road 9.
Ladies and gentlemen, and after a little more than a week of having completed 40 years, it is with a mixture of shame (for admitting to having been the first time I met these places, except for the convent) and of pride that I am writing to you. Yep! Portugal is truly a wonderful country!
