Portugal - Zona Centro (Montemor-o-Velho, Figueira da Foz, Coimbra) / Páscoa em Família - Apr 2017

Grande parte da família do lado da minha mãe é da zona centro do país. Tive a sorte de, desde pequena, passar férias com tias e tios, primas e primos.

Com a idade, a regularidade e certeza destes encontros foi-se espaçando. Este fim-de-semana de Páscoa correspondeu a mais um destes encontros. 

Talvez porque já lá não ia há alguns meses, dei por mim a apreciar a beleza que é também esta parte de Portugal.

 

Arranquei 5ª feira até à casa da minha mãe, uma quinta muito bonita em Presalves (aldeia a cerca de 10 km de Montemor-o-Velho). Chama-se Quinta do Outeiro porque fica situada numa pequena elevação tendo por cenário arbustos e árvores de fruto, floresta e o Mondego.

Ao longo destes dias, em jeito de treino para o Caminho de Santiago, fiz algumas caminhadas.

Eu não percebo nada de botânica mas fiquei encantada! Estamos em plena Primavera e os campos estão repletos de papoilas, flores amarelas, lilazes e brancas… As cerejeiras estão em flor e as glicínias libertam um aroma extraordinário que, para pânico da minha sobrinha Madalena, atraem todo o tipo de insectos.

É um fervilhar de vida! Pássaros, rãs, insectos, ovelhas, cabritos, cães…fechar os olhos e tentar identificá-los vira um jogo 😊

Dei um salto à Figueira da Foz, que fica a cerca de 25km de casa.

A cidade onde nasceu a minha mãe é pequena e encantadora. De quem vem da A14 podemos ver as salinas que anunciam a sua entrada.

Esta estância balnear oferece um grande número de praias, todas elas de água bem fria mas muito bonitas. Mesmo a praia mais urbana é selvagem! Tem um areal gigante onde foram construídos passadiços de madeira que convidam as pessoas a caminhadas, corridas ou passeios de bicicleta. Ao longe a Serra da Nossa Senhora da Boa Viagem…

Entretanto, percebi que abriu a época dos percebes, e no passeio que dei por aqui acabei por comprar 1 kilinho no pontão, directamente aos pescadores, que serviu de entrada e divertimento ao almoço. Foi a primeira vez que a Madalena provou aquela espécie de crustáceo e rimo-nos à gargalhada com o espirrar da água que com frequência acontece quando fazemos por os comer.

Por estes dias dei também um salto a Coimbra (a cerca de 50km), cidade universitária que dispensa apresentações. Oferece, cultura e história, óptima comida (eu adoro os doces conventuais!), paisagens lindíssimas e muito boa gente. Fui até lá porque é onde se encontrava o meu Tio Fernando e eu queria muito estar com ele. Foi bom aquele bocadinho😍

Estive ainda em Montemor-o-Velho, uma vila muito bonita, famosa (entre outras coisas) pelo seu castelo. Um dos mais bem conservados do país! Daqui avistam-se os campos a perder de vista, sobretudo milho ou arroz, conforme a altura do ano.

Vim a um "almocinho" de família (para mim alargada), que começou pelas 14h e terminou a pelas 23h. Eramos cerca de 105 pessoas (julgo que um pouco mais) e juntou 4 gerações! Em todos os aspectos, gigante!

Much of the family on my mother's side is from the central part of the country. I was fortunate enough to have had vacations with aunts, uncles, and cousins since I was a child.

With age, the regularity and certainty of these encounters was spaced out.

This Easter weekend corresponded to one of these meetings.

Perhaps because I had not been there for some months, I found myself appreciating the beauty that also this part of Portugal has.

On Thursday, I went to my mother's house, a very pretty farm in Presalves (village about 10 km from Montemor-o-Velho). The farm is called “Quinta do Outeiro” because it is situated on a small elevation with shrubs and fruit trees, forest and Mondego.

During these days, I did some hiking as a way of training for the Path of Santiago.

I do not understand anything about botany but I was delighted! 

We are in Spring and the fields are full of poppies and yellow, lilac and white flowers ... The cherry trees are in bloom and the wisterias give off an extraordinary aroma that attracts all kinds of insects (for the panic of my niece Madalena!).

It's a life buzz! Birds, frogs, insects, sheep, goatlings, dogs ... If you close your eyes and try to identify them, it just turns a game 😊

I took a ride to Figueira da Foz, which is about 25km from home.

The town, where my mother was born, is small and charming. From those who come from the highway (A14), you can see the salines that announce the entrance in the city.

It offers a large number of beaches, all of them with very cool water but they are very beautiful. Even the most urban beach is wild! There is a giant sand beach where wooden walkways were built. A lot of people go there for hiking, running or cycling. At the distance it is possible to see the Mountain of “Nossa Senhora da Boa Viagem” ...

Meanwhile, I realized that it opened the period of the barnacles. I went for a walk and I bought a kilo on the pontoon, directly to the fishermen. The barnacles served as an entrance and fun for lunch. It was the first time that the Madalena had tasted that kind of crustacean, and we laughed out loud at the splashing water that often happens when we try to eat them.

For these days I also went to Coimbra (about 50km), a university city that does not need presentations. It offers, culture and history, great food (I love the convent desserts!), beautiful landscapes and very very good people. I went there because that's where my uncle Fernando was and I really wanted to see him. Even for a short time, it was very nice to be with him 😍

I was also in Montemor-o-Velho, a very beautiful village, famous (among other things) for its castle. One of the best preserved in the country! From here you can see the fields for miles, especially with corn or rice, depending on the time of the year. I came here to a family lunch, which began at 2pm and ended at 11pm. We were about 105 people (I think a little more) and joined 4 generations! In every way, Giant!
